Established a London firm of engravers, stationers and mapsellers trading as Charles Smith and Son (1827-1852). His first English County Atlas, Smith's New English Atlas was issued in fifteen parts with an index and title page. Parts 1-14 were issued in 1801 and part 15 and the title page are dated 1804.

Smith's New English Atlas - 1801/4 re-issued up to 1864.
England and Wales - 1806
New General Atlas - 1808 and 1816
New Pocket Companion to the Roads of England and Wales - 1826.
